Screen Rant is thrilled to exclusively premiere the title track for The Lost King—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which will be available digitally on October 7 through Lakeshore Records. Featuring music by Academy Award-winning composer Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Shape of Water), The Lost King tells the remarkable true story of how the remains of King Richard III were discovered beneath a car park in Leicester. Seated at the center of the impossible event is Philippa Langley (played by Sally Hawkins), who refused to back down when her friends, family, and even experts in the field dismissed her research.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY
The Lost King was directed by acclaimed auteur Stephen Frears, who has previously collaborated with Desplat on several beloved films, including The Queen and Florence Foster Jenkins. Desplat has been composing film scores for nearly four decades, but he first broke through to the American cultural consciousness with 2003's The Girl With The Pearl Earring and 2004's Birth. Since then, eleven of his movies have been nominated for Oscars, and he has won plenty of accolades for his scores as well. From David Fincher and George Clooney to Greta Gerwig and Guillermo del Toro, Desplat has consistently worked with the top filmmakers of the day, providing scores that perfectly complement the quality of the storytelling.
"The Lost King Theme" by Alexandre Desplat is equal parts vibrant and majestic, perfectly encapsulating the fine line between comedy and drama that only a filmmaker of Stephen Frears' caliber can master. Listen to the full track above, which weaves the history of the controversial King Richard III with amateur historian Philippa Langle's tireless efforts to have her story told.
