Jamie Lee Curtis has revealed that she would be happy to make another Freaky Friday with her co-star Lindsay Lohan. Freaky Friday originated as a 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, following a teen girl and her mother who swap bodies over the course of one bizarre day. The novel can also be considered a remake of the 1882 F. Anstey novel Vice Versa: A Lesson to Fathers. Freaky Friday was originally adapted into a film in 1976, starring Barbara Harris and future Oscar winner Jodie Foster, which was followed by a TV movie adaptation in 1996 starring Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann, who would later go on to star in the Prime Video series Transparent.

The Curtis and Lohan version of the story came out in 2003, helmed by future Mean Girls director Mark Waters. Curtis played the uptight Tess and Lohan played the wannabe rocker Anna, who are forced to inhabit each other's lives after they switch bodies thanks to a magical fortune cookie. The cast of Freaky Friday also included Harold Gould, Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Willie Garson, and Stephen Tobolowsky. The film was a substantial hit, making $160.8 million off its budget of $26 million and landing at #20 on the chart of the highest-grossing films of the year, just behind the trilogy-capping Spy Kids 3: Game Over.

As reported by EW, Curtis recently appeared at an event promoting her upcoming horror film Halloween Ends. When a fan asked if she was interested in continuing the story of Freaky Friday any further, she shared that "Lindsay Lohan and I are friends," saying that they texted recently while Lohan was on the set of her upcoming Netflix rom-com Irish Wish. She followed that up by saying "Freaky Friday remake? Absolutely." Read her full quote below:

Lindsay Lohan and I are friends…. Lindsay Lohan and I text. She texted me the other day, she's in Ireland making [Irish Wish]. Anyway, Freaky Friday remake? Absolutely.

Curtis' quote was more of a playful, off-the-cuff remark than an announcement of any real intention. However, it would be entirely possible for a Freaky Friday sequel or remake starring both of them to get off the ground. Their 2003 version of the story continues to be enduringly popular, and in the meantime the title has continued to hold sway in the popular consciousness, having been re-adapted into a Disney Channel original musical in 2018, and a slasher with the same basic premise in Christopher Landon's 2020 film Freaky.

The 2003 Freaky Friday even featured a sequel hook, involving Lohan's little brother potentially switching with his grandfather. However, any follow-up would likely fudge the promise of that scene at least a little bit, considering how much time has passed. Freaky Friday has proved to be an incredibly malleable premise, having provided fodder for so many iterations. However, there has never been a proper sequel to one of its adaptations, so this time could absolutely be ripe. With a resurgence in Curtis' career, another sequel to one of her previous movies is not out of the question.
