The trailer for The Wonder reveals a closer look at Florence Pugh's latest role. The upcoming psychological thriller from Netflix is based on the novel of the same name by Irish-Canadian author Emma Donoghue, who also wrote Room. The story is based on the famous Victorian era "fasting girls," which centers on an 11-year-old girl named Anna (Kila Lord Cassidy), who stops eating for months with no ill effects to her health. Pugh will play a nurse named Lib Wright in the film, who goes to Anna's small village in the Irish Midlands to observe the girl, who is either the result of a miracle or something darker.

Pugh's first Netflix production will be directed by Sebastián Lelio, and stars Tom Burke, Ciarán Hinds, Toby Jones, and Niamh Algar along with many other English and Irish actors. After her successful runs in period dramas like The Falling and Little Women, The Wonder marks a return to form for Pugh with its 1860s setting. Pugh shared set photos from The Wonder last August, revealing her character's look as well as the gloomy rural setting. Now, a trailer released by Netflix offers more details about the upcoming film.
In the trailer posted by Netflix today, the eerie tone of the thriller is palpable. Despite being set nearly a century before Don't Worry Darling, Pugh's role seems to share some similarities to her character, in that she is the one voice crying out that something is amiss among a sea of strangely secretive residents in the town. The Wonder trailer starts off slow, before showing flashes of quick images which tease some potentially supernatural occurrences and multiple fires, as well as Pugh's own unraveling the longer she stays in the village.
