Chris Evans, who played Steve Rogers/Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reacts to the new Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer. Evans joined the MCU early in its run, serving as the franchise's first Captain America with his solo film Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011. He went on to complete a trilogy as the character and appeared in a total of 11 MCU films before passing his shield on to the former Falcon, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who takes on the hero's moniker in the upcoming Captain America: New World Order. The MCU has expanded considerably since Evans first joined, with a whopping 11 films set to release over the next threee years, the closest of which is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The Black Panther sequel, which will be helmed by the first film's director Ryan Coogler, has been highly anticipated since the original 2018 film's breakthrough success. The final movie of Phase Four, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever shoulders the enormous responsibility of closing out an era of the MCU, as well as honoring the original Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman, whose character T'Challa will be paid tribute in the upcoming film after the actor's tragic passing. A new jam-packed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer released shows emotional sequences honoring T'Challa, teases the appearance of the new Black Panther, and shows glimpses of new MCU villain (or anti-hero) Namor in action as well as Riri Williams/Ironheart (Dominique Thorne).

Chris Evans made his thoughts on the new trailer known with a simple reaction on Twitter. The actor, who previously shared the screen with the late Boseman in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War (during which he also spent time in Wakanda and interacted with Wright's Shuri), retweeted the trailer with the addition of a flaming heart emoji, displaying his excitement for and support of the upcoming film. Chris Evans Continues Supporting MCU Even After Steve Rogers' Retirement

As a fixture of the MCU for nearly a decade, Evans' continuing support of the superhero franchise is heartwarming. The actor has commented on several MCU properties since his exit from the franchise, including a recent tweet in response to She-Hulk: Attorney At Law's discussion of his character losing his virginity, which simply consisted of three laughing emojis and one with a mouth zipped shut. After Steve retired in Avengers: Endgame, his presence has been felt in the Disney+ MCU series, both in a joking way as referred to above and a more serious sense in series like The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. On the movie side, after Spider-Man: Far From Home grappled with the loss of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Black Widow paid tribute to the fallen Natasha Romanoff (Scarlet Johansson), Captain America: New World Order is expected to balance Steve's absence with Sam's new role, and it's likely that Evans will make his thoughts known when that time comes.

Evans' continued engagement in the franchise allows him to enjoy the MCU's content as a fan and viewer, existing outside the action for the first time in almost a decade. As the MCU takes on a new generation of heroes, it's moving to see an original fixture like Evans support the characters and their stories. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will see someone new take up the mantle of the Black Panther, and Evans is clearly among those excited to watch that journey unfold.
