Another stunning reveal at Salone del Mobile 2022, this one by Sophie Dries. She’s put her Levitation Alchemia mirrors, created for Milan’s Nilufar Gallery, on display. In the collection’s extension, molten glass encases various minerals, such as mica, to add opacity, color, and a little bit of shine. The result becomes the frame of the project’s two new mirrors that appear to be floating in the middle of a piece of art. Dries frequently experiments with material alchemy and transformation, and this time enlisted traditional glass masters from Murano, Italy to turn her vision into a reality. Take a moment and notice the small nuances: the small encased bubbles, the overlapping layers, and the texture of the mica. An amorphous masterpiece.
