Recent trailers for Halloween Ends disprove a popular theory that Laurie Strode's daughter Karen (Judy Greer) survived the attack in Halloween Kills. Halloween Ends will see a four-year time jump, while showing how Haddonfield has dealt with the trauma from the previous film. Since Halloween Kills, many theories have popped up online making the case that Karen survived, but the trailer for the threequel confirming her death dispel these theories.

Halloween Ends sees Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) living with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak). Laurie is writing her memoir and attempting to adjust to a normal life. However, it seems she has not fully moved on and is preparing for what looks to be Laurie's final confrontation with her arch-enemy, Michael Myers. While the film is marketed to be the trilogy's final entry, recent comments by Halloween (1978) director John Carpenter hint that the series could continue if Halloween Ends is successful.

Dialogue from Laurie in Halloween Ends final trailer reveals that Karen did indeed die. She iterates that Michael killed her daughter, so she must now kill him. This dialogue sets the stage for their final confrontation by giving Laurie a do-or-die motive to finish it once and for all. The confirmation of Karen's death is sad for many who hoped that three generations of Strode women might altogether take down the infamous Michael Myers. Still, Karen's death is good for the finale of the trilogy.

Why Karen's Death Is Good For Halloween Ends

Halloween - Laurie Karen and Allyson Strode

From a storytelling perspective, Karen's death at the end of Halloween Kills adds more nuance to the plot by giving Laurie and Allyson even more personal motivation to stop Michael Myers for good. Michael has killed Laurie's daughter and both of Allyson's parents. The film could be set up with Allyson as the new final girl of the series, with rampant speculation that Laurie might not survive the encounter with Michael.

Allyson is one of the few in the series who actually survives a direct encounter with the Haddonfield slasher. The film's time jump will feature an older Allyson who has had time to deal with losing both parents, a boyfriend, and friends in one night. While the spotlight is on Laurie's showdown with Michael, Allyson may prove to be Michael Myers' biggest threat.

Much of the plot of Halloween Ends is still under wraps, but the director has confirmed that copycat killers will be what draws Michael Myers out of hiding. Though Michael survived Halloween Kills, he suffered a ton of damage. The copycat killer may play a huge role and potentially set up a continuation of the series with a "new" Michael Myers at the helm.
