Is World Photography Day just another one of those made-up days? We’re photographers — every day is a photography day for us. But it’s still a great reminder of how we can make the most out of our photography.
Here are some things you can do to celebrate World Photography Day that you may not otherwise think about or do on a regular basis.
Learn something new on World Photography Day
Take today to try out that new technique you saw. Intentional Camera Movement, panning, multiple exposures?
Are there new tools in the post-processing app or software you use? It’s a good day to figure them out. See what they can help you do better or more efficiently.

Sign up for a workshop
Workshops are such a great way to learn and immerse yourself in photography for a day or several days. It’s so nice to hang out with and learn alongside other photographers. Besides learning from the instructor, you almost always learn something from your fellow photographers as well.
Take the opportunity to attend a workshop on a genre of photography that you don’t typically practice. If you’re a landscape photographer go learn how to get in close and capture details in a macro workshop. Still life photography your thing? Head out to the streets for a street photography workshop and learn to capture images on the go.
Read more about photography
Don’t tell me you don’t have a whole shelf or two (at least) of photography books and you’ve read them all. Grab one that you haven’t read, or delve back into an old favorite. Learn about the history of photography or famous photographers from the past.
Search out some new podcasts to listen to
Yes, most of us have our regulars that we listen to. But, who else is out there with a fresh take on the photography industry? Is there a podcast interviewing the new up-and-coming photographers? You can find Photofocus podcasts and webinars here.
Or, veer off into the art world podcasts. Photography is art after all and learning about all forms of art can help you grow as a photographer.
Go on a photowalk on World Photography Day
Get out and have some fun, be social and spend a relaxed few hours creating images and hangout out with your photography friends.

Cull and edit images
Oh, I feel this one and is likely what I’ll be doing. Yep, we all have those backlog of images that have never seen the light of day. Purposely take World Photography Day off and spend it culling and editing. Crank up some tunes and get lost in past travel adventures or get caught up on those portrait sessions you’ve been booking.
Share!
We’d love to hear what you did to celebrate World Photography Day. Better yet, show us the images you created or edited by sharing them in the Photofocus Community.
