WARNING! This post contains SPOILERS for Hocus Pocus 2.Hocus Pocus 2 has two end-credits scenes, which tease the possibility of another sequel. Hocus Pocus 2 has been a long time coming, as the original movie was released 29 years ago in 1993. While the three Sanderson Sisters return for Hocus Pocus 2’s mishaps on Halloween night, the majority of the sequel consists of a new cast and characters, which keeps the franchise (and the witches’ potential victims) fresh. Despite two different generations of teenagers having already beaten the resurrected Sandersons, the end credits tease there’s always more to come.

In the original Hocus Pocus, the end credits cleared up a few mysteries remaining after Max, Dani, and Allison defeated the witches. Hocus Pocus’s credits revealed that the spell bewitching the parents at town hall was finally broken, with Ice and Jay still being trapped in the cages at the Sanderson home. As Winifred, Mary, and Sarah’s rendition of “I Put a Spell on You” played again, Book opened its eyes, proving their magic was still alive. Hocus Pocus 2’s after-credits scene similarly confirms that the Sanderson Sisters’ powers may not be gone for good.

The first end-credits scene for Hocus Pocus 2 sees Winnie, Sarah, and Mary performing the original song “The Witches Are Back” in a recording studio. The song had previously been used during Hocus Pocus 2 when the sisters were first resurrected, confusing Becca and Izzy as to why the Sandersons were performing in the middle of the woods. Hocus Pocus 2’s next after-credits scene shows Gilbert’s black cat Cobweb jumping onto various shelves in the magic shop, which was originally the Sandersons’ home. As Cobweb jumps onto one specific shelf, he reveals a box labeled “BF Candle #2,” indicating that Gilbert had one more Black Flame Candle stashed at the magic shop. This tease is similar to Book’s eye opening up in the end credits scene of Hocus Pocus (1993), suggesting the Sanderson Sisters could be resurrected again.

What Another Black Flame Candle Means For Hocus Pocus 3

Becca and Izzy light the Black Flame Candle in Hocus Pocus 2

The Black Flame Candle is what resurrects the Sanderson Sisters and gives them their powers and life for Halloween night. The candle only works when lit by a virgin, which is why the witches' foes are typically young teenagers. Since there’s still one more Black Flame Candle left after Hocus Pocus 2, another sequel could explore a new group of teenagers finding it and accidentally unleashing the witches for the third time.

It’s also possible that the Black Flame Candle could be used to resurrect the Sanderson Sisters as anti-heroes in Hocus Pocus 3. Becca, Izzy, and Cassie are new to their powers and don’t quite know how to use them, so if they were to take on an even more powerful villain like the Witch Mother from Hocus Pocus 2's flashback, the teens would likely need help from the more experienced Sanderson Sisters. This use of the Black Flame Candle would also be a way to keep Hocus Pocus’s adventures fresh and exciting, as the franchise has yet to truly position Winifred, Mary, and Sarah as the good guys in Salem.
