Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness actor Elizabeth Olsen hopes for a crossover with the X-Men after Hugh Jackman was announced to reprise his role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool 3 will be The Merc with a Mouth's introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Wade Wilson after the Disney/Fox merger in 2019. Producer Kevin Feige has assured Deadpool 3 would be the MCU's first R-rated production, staying true to what Reynolds and Fox have established with its previous two installments and the irreverent nature of the character from the comics.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY
In a surprising viral video posted on Twitter, Reynolds announced that Jackman would be appearing as Wolverine once again. It isn't clear how Wolverine will return after his demise in 2017's Logan, but Reynolds has said they will not break continuity from that movie. Logan was set in 2029, and Deadpool 3 will likely be set before the events of James Mangold's film or in an alternate universe. Deadpool 3 will be the second time X-Men characters have been integrated into the MCU, after Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
During the Power of Women event red carpet interview with Variety, Olsen was told that Jackman would appear in the MCU through the interview. At first, she expressed shock at the news but is excited to potentially see a massive crossover between the X-Men and established MCU characters during the franchise's Multiverse saga. Check out what she said on the matter below:
"Oh really? Wow! I guess Wolverine is X-Men. It would be cool to work with a lot of those people form the X-Men franchise. I guess Fassbender is my dad in some world?"
Could Other Fox X-Men Movie Actors Appear in the MCU?
After WandaVision saw the appearance of Evan Peters' Quicksilver, until he wasn't, all bets were open as to when a character from the Fox X-Men universe would officially appear in the MCU. Fans didn't have to wait long for it to happen, with Patrick Stewart appearing in his classic yellow floating wheelchair in the Multiverse of Madness as Charles Xavier, only for the character to get killed by Scarlet Witch after a few minutes of screen time. However, with Deadpool 3 bringing Logan into the MCU, one wonders if more Fox X-Men characters will appear in the movie, and in other MCU-related titles.
Based on Elizabeth Olsen's excitement for the X-Men to fully join the MCU, it would be interesting to see more characters from the Fox universe interact with the Avengers. With Deadpool 3 officially set in the MCU, it is now possible. Time will tell if more characters from the Fox universe than Wolverine will show up, as the movie prepares to start production for its theatrical release on September 6, 2024.
