The official release date for the hotly anticipated Deadpool 3 has finally been revealed. The film will be the third project to star Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, also known as Deadpool, the "Merc with a Mouth." He originated the character, who cheekily breaks the fourth wall as often as possible (frequently making fun of the other actors and characters that are a part of the X-Men franchise), in the 2016 hit Deadpool, which was followed by Deadpool 2 in 2018.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The newest Deadpool film will officially be part of the MCU now that Disney owns 20th Century Studios and can fold their X-Men characters into their own universe. However, as Deadpool is an R-rated franchise and Marvel has confirmed that they will keep it as such, it has taken some time for the company to find the right place for Deadpool to fit. Until recently, all that was officially announced about the project was the fact that Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick would be returning to help pen the screenplay, and the film would be directed by Shawn Levy, who recently collaborated with Reynolds in both Free Guy and The Adam Project.

Where Deadpool 3 Fits Into The MCU's Release Calendar

During their huge release date announcement at this year’s Comic-Con, Marvel revealed most of their line-up from Phase 5 and a few titles from Phase 6. Deadpool 3 seems to be taking the as-yet unclaimed spot that was assigned for “Fall 2024,” meaning it will likely be the first movie from Phase 6. This will place it two months apart from both July 2024’s Thunderbolts and November 2024’s Fantastic Four, bridging the gap as the MCU’s Multiverse Saga begins its final chapter.

So far, no other movies from major studios have been announced for September 2024, so Deadpool 3 stands alone in what is usually a relatively slow box office month. This leaves about four clear weeks between the trilogy-capper and the next huge comic book movie, October’s musical sequel Joker: Folie à Deux. While it's certain that more titles will be added to September as the date draws closer, Deadpool 3 could prove to dominate the box office throughout the entire month.
