WARNING! This post contains SPOILERS for The Munsters (2022).Rob Zombie’s The Munsters movie brings back two of the main actors from the original sitcom for hidden cameos – here’s where to spot them. The Munsters (2022) follows the iconic characters back in Transylvania, with plenty of familiar faces and new figures joining the Munster family in their campy love story. While new actors portray Herman, Lily, and The Count (a.k.a Grandpa), Zombie’s The Munsters prequel pays tribute to the original iterations of the characters through some clever cameos.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY
Since The Munsters’ original sitcom ran from 1964 until 1966, the majority of the cast is no longer around. Herman Munster actor Fred Gwynne, Lily Munster actress Yvonne De Carlo, and Grandpa actor Al Lewis all passed away more than 15 years ago, with the first Marilyn Munster actress Beverley Owen passing in 2019. However, Rob Zombie was successful in recruiting Butch Patrick and Pat Priest – the two surviving main actors from The Munsters – to rejoin the franchise in new roles.
While both Butch Patrick and Pat Priest are part of Rob Zombie's divisive Munsters movie’s cast, neither have physical on-screen appearances, as both are only featured in voice roles. Patrick, who played the role of Herman and Lily’s werewolf son Eddie Munster, voices the Tin Can Man in Rob Zombie’s movie. The robotic character from the original sitcom marries Herman to Lily in The Munsters (2022), with Patrick’s voice being used for the officiant. Pat Priest, who was the second actress to play Lily’s human niece Marilyn Munster, makes a voice cameo as the Transylvania Airlines Announcer. Her cameo can be heard toward the end of The Munsters movie when Lily, Herman, and The Count are flying on Transylvania flight 666 to Los Angeles.
Why Eddie & Marilyn Weren't In Rob Zombie's Munsters Movie
While Eddie and Marilyn Munster’s original actors are involved in the movie, the characters are nowhere to be seen in Rob Zombie’s prequel. This is for good reason, as The Munsters (2022) serves as the family’s origin story that explores how Lily and Herman met and fell in love. As such, their son Eddie Munster likely won’t be around for several more years. The Munsters’ sitcom indicated that Marilyn had lived with Lily and Herman since she was a baby, suggesting she’ll move from Transylvania to America soon after the prequel’s ending.
There’s no official word on whether director Rob Zombie will be making a sequel to the PG-rated The Munsters movie, but a second film could finally explore the era in which Marilyn first moves into 1313 Mockingbird Lane and Eddie is born. A sequel could also finally explain the mystery surrounding Marilyn’s parents, who were curiously missing from Lily and Herman's wedding. The Munsters sitcom left much of the characters’ intriguing past still untold, which gives Rob Zombie ample room to explore the spooky family in more movies.
