Star Wars franchise alum Kelly Marie Tran is set to produce and star in a biopic about the life of activist Amanda Nguyen. Nguyen is a Harvard graduate who rose to prominence for her work in combating sexual violence and violence against Asian-Americans after surviving a sexual assault. She is known for forming Rise, a non-profit organization that protected the civil rights of sexual assault survivors, which also led to the creation of the Sexual Assault Survivors' Rights Act. Since then, Nguyen has become a prominent figure in raising women's voices, and now her story is looking to be told on screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Star Wars alum Kelly Marie Tran will be producing and starring in a feature film about the life of Amanda Nguyen, whom she is also friends with. The project is being produced by Significant Productions and Madica Productions, while Tang Yi (All the Crows in the World) is in talks to write and direct the film. Tran said about the project:

Over the years, Amanda’s activism has changed the lives of billions, as she continues to make our world safer for sexual assault survivors everywhere… Her courage inspires me every day, and I am honored to help tell her story.

Kelly Marie Tran has made a name for herself for her portrayal of Rose Tico in the Star Wars franchise and for providing the voice of Raya in the Disney animated film Raya and the Last Dragon. Tran herself had faced backlash due to the numerous amount of hate for her role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. This combined with the harsh challenges that Amanda Nguyen faced makes Tran a good candidate to help tell her story.
