Nicky Romero is back with his Monocule alias for another dark progressive track, “On My Mind.” This one sees Nicky reunite with fellow Dutchman Tim van Werd. He co-produced the very first Monocule track “Time to Save” back in 2020 (which seems like it was a decade ago.)
“On My Mind” follows the familiar, but fool-proof pattern that all Monocule tracks have taken. A quiet, slow buildup, in this case accompanied by a club-ready vocal track. The production is fairly minimal. The drop consists of the droning beat in the background, with light synths overlaid. A light melody begins to rise over the percussion as we get the vocal refrain “You’re on my mind.”
The track continues with more introspective lyrics over the minimal production. The second drop has tons of production flourishes, as the bassline takes the forefront as well as more synths and a droning bassline too.
