Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions announce Orlando Bloom is set to star alongside David Harbour in a film adaption of Gran Turismo, a popular racing video game. Gran Turismo debuted on the original PlayStation in 1997 and has continually produced sequels, with the seventh installment releasing on the PlayStation 5 earlier this year. Gran Turismo is one of multiple PlayStation properties to get a screen adaptation, and now the cast has grown.

Deadline reveled that Bloom has joined the cast of Gran Turismo, costarring with Stranger Things' Harbour. The film adaptation will follow a skilled, teenage player who wins a series of Nissan competitions and becomes a professional race car driver. Details about Bloom's character are sparse at the moment, but Deadline acknowledges that the actor is having a bit of a resurgence with several major projects in the pipeline.
Gran Turismo will be directed by Neill Blomkamp, whose previous credits include sci-fi, action-thrillers, District 9 and Chappie. The screenplay is written by Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Will Dunn (Ms. Marvel). Hall is also executive producer alongside video game creator, Kazunori Yamauchi. Fans will be happy to know that development of this film is in capable hands and can now look forward to seeing Bloom when Gran Turismo releases on August 11, 2023.
