A new Stephen King movie adaptation titled Fairy Tale taps Jason Bourne director Paul Greengrass to direct. The film will be based on King's novel under the same name that was just released on September 6, 2022. The most recent novel in King's arsenal has already gotten a significant amount of buzz due to positive reviews.
Deadline reports that Greengrass will be adapting the script for Fairy Tale as well as directing the film. Aside from writing and directing, Greengrass will also be producing the film with Gregory Goodman, whose past credits include Jason Bourne, Fantastic Four, and X-Men: First Class. The film follows an epic fantasy story of a 17-year-old boy who inherits the keys to a world where good and evil are fighting against each other. A full quote from King and Greengrass on the film respectively can be read below:
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY
King: "Needless to say, I’m a Paul Greengrass fan and think he’s a wonderful choice for this film."
Greengrass: “Fairy Tale is a work of genius. A classic adventure story and also a disturbing contemporary allegory.”
The novel is notable not only because it ventures further into the fantasy genre than some of King's past work, but also because it entails a significant amount of action in it as well. Because Greengrass is well-versed in putting together compelling action sequences, this may be part of the reason why Greengrass was chosen for this project over other directors, aside from the fact that King is a fan of his work. Viewers will have to continue following details regarding how Fairy Tale continues to come together and who will be joining its cast over the coming months.
