A24 is allowing fans an opportunity to appear in Ti West's next feature MaXXXine, which is the third film in the X trilogy. The story of the trilogy is a whirlwind, beginning with West and actress Mia Goth collaborating on the set of X, his '70s-set horror film about a group of people making a pornographic film on a property owned by a twisted older couple. Goth played the lead character Maxine, as well as the elderly woman Pearl, and when she and West were discussing her character's backstory, they came up with the idea to create an entire feature film prequel called Pearl, which they shot on the same sets after wrapping X, and is set to premiere in theaters on September 16, just five months after the March 2022 premiere of X.

Considering the success of the first film and the buzz around Pearl, West and his crew have decided to film a capper to the trilogy, which will be a sequel to X called MaXXXine. The film, which is set in 1985, will follow the career of Maxine as the home video boom begins to push the film industry in a whole new direction. Although principal photography has not yet begun, a brief teaser trailer for MaXXXine did appear following the premiere screening of Pearl at the Toronto International Film Festival.
A24 has announced that they are running a fan contest where participants can win an opportunity to be an extra in MaXXXine. They are asking dedicated fans to recreate the final confrontation between Pearl and Maxine in X as an audition tape. These auditions can be submitted on TikTok, Twitter, or Instagram using the hashtag #XCastingCall by the deadline, which is September 28th, 2022 at 11:59PM EST. Check out the scene in question below:
The fact that A24 is running this contest proves what a cultural phenomenon X and Pearl have already turned out to be. However, they have clearly been confident about the project since the start, considering the fact that they greenlit two films before they ever premiered the first one. That confidence clearly paid off for them, and for those who are already in love with the entire X trilogy, this contest will pay off for one of them as well.
So far, the only cast member that has been confirmed for MaXXXine is Goth, reprising her title role. Given the fact that this contest is only running for two weeks, it is likely that the next announced cast member will be the contest winner themselves. However, more casting announcements are likely to be made as the start of production draws nearer, which will allow whoever wins to get more and more excited about the opportunity.
