Jacob Lofland, best known for starring in the coming-of-age film Mud, has been cast in Joker: Folie à Deux. Set for release in 2024, Folie à Deux is the surprise sequel to 2019's hit Joker. Lead actor Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips return for the new film. Among the new cast members set to appear in Joker: Folie à Deux, Lady Gaga will to portray the Joker's love interest and partner in crime, Harley Quinn, and will surely contribute to the musical efforts that Phillips is interested in bringing to the sequel. Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener have also landed undisclosed roles.

According to THR, also joining this highly-anticipated second installment is up-and-coming actor Jacob Lofland, who will play an inmate at the central setting of Arkham Asylum and befriends Phoenix's Arthur Fleck. Lolfland broke out in the 2012 indie Mud alongside Matthew McConaughey and went on to appear in the Maze Runner franchise. Joker: Folie à Deux stands as his biggest project yet.

Lofland's character will offer a look at how Arthur Fleck relates to others following his complete embrace of his alter ego, the Joker. In conjunction with Gaga as Harley Quinn, Lofland's turn as an Arkham Asylum inmate should add further complexity to the Joker and audience's understanding of him as more than a one-dimensional villain. With the specifics of this character being tightly kept under wraps, the intrigue surrounding Joker: Folie à Deux will continue for the time being.
