The new The School for Good and Evil trailer has been released, introducing audiences to the fairy tale school and a tale of troubled friendships. The Netflix fantasy stars Sofia Wylie and Sophia Anne Caruso as two best friends who are swept up into a fantastical world of good versus evil. The School for Good and Evil is set to be released on the streaming service on October 19, 2022.

Adapted from Soman Chainani's 2013 fairytale fantasy novel, The School for Good and Evil follows the journey of Agatha (Wylie) and Sophie (Caruso) as they are taken to titular institution, where children are taught to become the heroes and villains of fairy tales. After a mistake leads to them being sent to the "wrong" schools, the two girls' friendship is put to the test as they discover their true desires. With a star-studded cast featuring Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Yeoh, Kerry Washington, Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett, and Ben Kingsley, The School for Good and Evil is a highly-anticipated release for Netflix, and a new trailer has given audiences a better glimpse at Paul Feig's fantasy adaptation.

Uploaded to Netflix's official YouTube channel, the new trailer for The School for Good and Evil introduces audiences to the fantastical realm of Gavaldon as Agatha and Sophie are taken to the school. Alongside the appearance of Theron, Washington, and Fishburne as teachers Lady Lesso, Professor Clarissa Dovey, and the School Master, respectively, the trailer also features nods to classic tales like Snow White and Cinderella. Agatha and Sophie's friendship is also a key focus of the trailer, as their relationship is tested when Sophie begins to embrace her potential as a villain despite Agatha's pleas to leave the school. Check out the trailer below:

With Blanchett cast as the narrator, The School for Good and Evil promises to deliver a refreshing take on the fantastical fairy tale stories that viewers are familiar with. While classic tales like Snow White, Cinderella, and the fable of King Arthur have been adapted many times, with Disney creating some of the most well-known and beloved representations, Chainani's series of novels aimed to return to the original stories' darker, tenser elements that most well-known film adaptations veer away from. This can be seen with Agatha and Sophie's journeys, as not only does Agatha attempt to escape her fantastical fate, but the film promises to tackle and subvert themes of fate when the pair are thrown into paths neither expected to be on.

The School for Good and Evil is one of Netflix's most promising releases of 2022, and with Chainani previously praising the film's production and Feig's handling of the source material, the film may be the start of the next popular young-adult fantasy franchise for a new generation. The trailer not only gives newcomers who may be unfamiliar with the series an introduction to the story's premise, but also offers a good glimpse at the fantastical world's wondrous visuals. With only a number of weeks until its release, both new audiences and longtime fans of Chainani's work will not have to wait long to finally dive into The School for Good and Evil for themselves.
