With the next chapter in the franchise right around the corner, A24 has released the first Maxxxine teaser trailer, confirming a third X movie from the indie studio. The series of horror movies hails from horror genre vet Ti West, best known for the cult favorites The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers and segments in the V/H/S and The ABCs of Death franchises. The first X movie centered on a group of aspiring pornographers who head to a rural Texas farm to film, only to be menaced by the elderly couple who own the property.

Hitting theaters this past March, X scored widespread acclaim for its slasher movie throwbacks, West's direction and the performances of its cast, namely Goth in the dual role of aspiring star Maxine and elderly killer Pearl. Audiences were surprised when X featured a post-credits trailer for Pearl, a prequel movie shot in secret focused on Goth's titular character in her younger years and exploring the origins of her killer ways. The film is gearing up to hit theaters this week and after West's previous teases about the franchise's future, exciting news has come about what comes next for the X series.

On the heels of the second film scoring critical acclaim, A24 reveals a third X movie is in the works with a Maxxxine teaser trailer. The video reveals the film will be set in Los Angeles in 1985, with the studio confirming that it will act as a direct sequel to the original X and follow Goth's titular character as she tries to achieve her dreams of fame as an actress. Check out the teaser below:

For those who fell in love with the original X movie, the confirmation that a third installment is coming with Maxxxine is sure to be an exciting reveal. West had previously confirmed his hopes to develop another chapter in the horror movie franchise, saying it would further explore the film industry and would be set after the events of the original X, though kept further details for how it would connect to its predecessors. Given West's past comments also indicated the movies would compliment one another, some took this as meaning it would focus on entirely new characters, though with Pearl still centered on one of Goth's characters, others were hopeful that a third X movie would see how Maxine dealt with the aftermath of the original.

With a third X movie now confirmed with the Maxxxine teaser trailer, horror genre fans have exciting times ahead with a multitude of franchises delivering new chapters. This year alone not only launched the X movie franchise, but also brought Scream back to the big screen and the Predator prequel Prey to Hulu in similarly acclaimed fashion, with the former getting another sequel in March and talks currently underway for a follow-up to the latter. While audiences await further details on Maxxxine, they can catch the next chapter in the X universe with Pearl hitting theaters on Friday.
