With anticipation nearing a fever pitch, Knives Out 2's early reactions have arrived from its Toronto International Film Festival premiere. Entitled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the film acts as the next chapter in the life of Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc, a private detective of great renown who audiences came to know in his quest to solve the murder of wealthy murder mystery novelist Harlan Thrombey. Rian Johnson's sequel will follow Blanc as he heads to the Mediterranean to investigate the death of a guest of tech billionaire Miles Bron on his private Greek island.

Craig's Benoit Blanc will have a whole host of new potential suspects and victims for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, including Edward Norton as Miles Bron, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista and Ethan Hawke. Netflix is producing the Knives Out sequel, having acquired the rights to two follow-ups in a major bidding war, with filming running on location in Greece from June to September 2021. While audiences already eager for its arrival following its first trailer, the excitement seems likely to grow following Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery's TIFF premiere.

Critics are near universal in their praise for Rian Johnson's murder mystery sequel, with many calling it funnier and wilder than the original and most feeling it to be just as good, if not better, than its predecessor. For those who fell in love with the original film, the Knives Out 2 early reactions are sure to come as exciting news as critics are largely hailing it as both good as, or better than, the original movie. One of the more interesting takeaways is many noting a major difference in its approach to the genre than the first film, something Johnson and his cast have teased before during its production. Given Johnson looks to have a wide range of inspirations for the franchise outside of just Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot, this may not come as much of a surprise to some, but should still prove a promising sign that the filmmaker is eager to keep the stories fresh for Craig's Benoit Blanc.
Another of the more interesting takeaways from the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery early reactions is the near-universal praise directed towards Janelle Monáe's performance in the film, as well as those of Kate Hudson and Edward Norton. Though said to be very different from the first film, the specific highlighting of three actors' performances may leave some drawing parallels to Ana de Armas, Toni Collette and Chris Evans' roles in the original Knives Out. Only time will tell if audiences are just as positive as critics with the sequel when Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery hits theaters in November and Netflix on December 23.
