Here's where you can find every trailer released online during Disney's 2022 edition of their biennial D23 Expo. This year, the Anaheim Convention Center was home to exciting new presentations by Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasarts, and Twentieth Century. These presentations included big announcements about upcoming projects from the various Disney-owned franchises and studios. Trailers are, of course, a crucial element of these presentations and D23 2022 had plenty to see.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY
Coming after Comic-Con 2022, the Disney fan event has built upon the hype already surrounding future Marvel, and Star Wars projects coming to both theaters and Disney+ over the next year. Attendees of the multiple D23 panels across the weekend have seen new footage from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Indiana Jones 5, and Avatar: The Way of Water. Of course, it's not just big tentpole blockbuster movies to get excited about at D23.
The schedule for D23 also included a celebration of Spider-Man's six decades in comics, information about developments at Disney theme parks, and a focus on upcoming videogames. However, the biggest draw for D23 are the slate presentations by the big Disney studios which include footage, production sketches, casting announcements and, of course, trailers. Here's every D23 trailer that Disney released at the expo.
The Little Mermaid
Following the Disney+ Day release of the live-action Pinocchio, The Little Mermaid (directed by Rob Marshall) is the next high-profile remake of a beloved Disney animated classic, heading to theaters in 2023. A teaser trailer was revealed at D23 that gave audiences a hint of the movie's photorealistic undersea world, and a brief glimpse of both Ariel and Flounder. The trailer closes with Halle Bailey singing the classic song "Part Of Your World," proving that she's perfectly cast in the role of Ariel.
Hocus Pocus 2
Presenting the trailer for Hocus Pocus 2, Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production cited the passion of fans of the original 1993 film as a driving force for producing 2022's legacy sequel. A teaser trailer for the Disney+ exclusive movie was revealed earlier this year, but the official trailer gives more details on how the Sanderson sisters became witches, and how they will return to present-day Salem this Halloween. It also gives viewers their first glimpse of Ted Lasso's Hannah Waddingham, whose character appears to introduce the Sanderson sisters to witchcraft.
Disenchanted
Disenchanted is another legacy sequel bound for Disney+ in 2022, releasing over the Thanksgiving weekend. The official trailer gives more information on this sequel to Amy Adams' subversive fairytale comedy. Disenchanted will see former fairytale princess Giselle (Amy Adams) struggle to adjust to everyday suburban life. Her disappointment at her own happy ending manifests as an ill-judged wish for more magic that looks to get wildly out of hand as the princess instead becomes an evil stepmother.
She-Hulk: Attorney At Law
The first Marvel Studios production to release a trailer over D23 weekend was She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which released a sneak peek at the rest of the first season. The trailer gave a better look at how Daredevil fits into She-Hulk, with Charlie Cox appearing as both the Man Without Fear and as Matt Murdock alongside Jennifer Walters' She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany). It also provided a look at Jen's superhero costume and a fun tease for how She-Hulk will attempt to contest her pending copyright suit from Titania.
Andor
Leading the Lucasfilm portion of 2022's D23 expo was Andor, the Star Wars: Rogue One prequel miniseries that charts Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) origins within the rebellion. A final trailer was screened ahead of its 3-episode premiere on September 21st on Disney+. Additional footage included a heated argument about the merits of the rebellion between Mon Mothma (Geneivieve O'Reilly) and Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) that looks set to give some further insight into the power dynamics within the Rebels.
Willow
The sequel miniseries to Val Kilmer fantasy movie Willow was next to feature in Lucasfilm's panel. The series begins streaming on Disney+ on November 30th, and the official trailer builds on the teaser revealed at this year's Comic-Con. The new trailer reveals that the legacy sequel miniseries will find Warwick Davies' titular hero called into action once again by Joanne Whalley's Sorsha.
Tales Of The Jedi
Lucasfilm revealed an official trailer for the upcoming Star Wars animated anthology series Tales of the Jedi which reveals the Jedi characters that will lead its six original shorts. Mace Windu, Count Dooku, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka, and Qui-Gon Jinn all appear in the trailer for the new Disney+ show that premieres on October 26th, with three episodes focused primarily on Ahsoka, and three primarily on Count Dooku. Intriguingly, Dooku and Qui-Gon are both considerably younger than in the prequel trilogy, so the show will look further back along the Star Wars timeline.
The Mandalorian
A teaser trailer for The Mandalorian season 3 was also shown at Lucasfilm's Star Wars panel, with stars Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Katee Sackhoff, Amy Sedaris and Emily Swallow in attendance. The teaser sets up the plot of season 3, with a focus on Mando being ostracized from his order, and the civil war on Mandalore. The Mandalorian season 3 release date is not set in stone yet, but will begin streaming some time in 2023.
Werewolf By Night
After debuting new footage from Wakanda Forever and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the first trailer released from Marvel's D23 panel is for their one-off Halloween special Werewolf By Night. The trailer is a stylized homage to old horror movies, featuring star Gael Garcia Bernal as a monster hunter summoned to a creepy house. Billed as a Special Presentation, the Marvel Studios horror homage releases on Disney+ on October 7th.
Secret Invasion
The final Marvel trailerat D23 2022 was Secret Invasion, the Disney+ TV show that will fill viewers in on what Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury has been up to since Avengers: Endgame. The Secret Invasion trailer gives a glimpse of returning Marvel characters like Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) in what looks like the MCU's first proper conspiracy thriller since Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The Secret Invasion release date is not included in the trailer, but the MCU TV show will begin streaming in 2023. While 2023 might be a little way away yet, viewers will have plenty to keep busy with all that is teased by the D23 expo trailers.
