Spy Kids will revisit Rodriguez's popular family-friendly franchise that previously saw Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino star alongside Alexa PenaVega and Daryl Sabara. With the Cortez family having been the focus of the original Spy Kids trilogy, before Spy Kids 4 shifted the focus on to a new family led by Jessica Alba and Joe McHale, it's not yet known whether any of these ex-spies will be making an appearance in Rodriguez's latest installment. As of right now, much of what can be expected from this upcoming Spy Kids reboot, aside from its core cast, remains shrouded in mystery, however, the film's production has just received a major update.

Rodriguez has a history with Netflix – 2020 saw his film We Can Be Heroes enjoy considerable success on the platform, with the film serving as a sequel to another of his previous projects, 2005's The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. Both Netflix and Rodriguez will surely be hoping to replicate this success with this upcoming Spy Kids reboot, with the film set to follow the story of a powerful game developer who is accidentally granted control over all technology, leading this new spy family to step up in order to help save the world. With filming now officially complete on Spy Kids, many will likely be hoping for a confirmed release date for the project in the near future.

As Spy Kids now enters its post-production stages, it will be interesting to find out what Rodriguez has up his sleeve this time around. More than 20 years on from the first film's release, it remains to be seen whether this new reboot can capture the same light-hearted family fun of its predecessors, the exact quality that drove the original trilogy to success. Many will also likely be excited to see Spy Kids' two lead stars, Levi and Rodriguez in these new roles, as well as to discover just what sort of adventures lie ahead for their family as a new villain threatens the fate of the world.
