A new set photo from the upcoming Red Sonja film is revealing a closer look at one imposing castle. The movie is based on the sword and sorcery comic-book character of the same name, created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel in 1973 and eventually continued by Dynamite Entertainment. Serving as the second live-action adaptation following Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1985 box office failure, the latest Red Sonja project has suffered from substantial setbacks. Directed by M.J. Bassett, and starring Matilda Lutz as Red Sonja, along with Wallis Day and Robert Sheehan, the film officially began production in August. While details surrounding its plot and the portrayal of its titular hero remain under wraps, Sonja is often depicted as an expert sword-master and martial artist, with experience fighting supernatural dangers.

The new Red Sonja adaptation has had a rather difficult time getting made, with discussions of another film dating back to 2010. After Bryan Singer was fired as director in 2019, his replacement Joey Soloway eventually exited the project, along with lead actress Hannah John-Kamen, prior to filming. With production now underway, featuring sets that perfectly represent its world, and the sheer enjoyment from Bassett and the cast, hopeful Red Sonja fans can finally begin anticipating the comic-book character's big-screen return.
