Timothée Chalamet's character compares cannibalism to being a "weird new superhero" in a clip from Luca Guadagnino's upcoming film, Bones & All. In recent years, Chalamet has established himself as one of the most promising and dynamic young actors of his generation with roles in Lady Bird, Beautiful Boy, Little Women, The French Dispatch, Dune, and Don't Look Up, just to name a few. For his next project, Chalamet has reteamed with his Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino, the two both earning Oscar nominations for the LGBTQ+ romantic drama in 2017.

Now, the actor and director have reunited for another coming-of-age romance based on an acclaimed novel. Escape Room's Taylor Russell and Chalamet lead the Bones & All cast as Maren and Lee, two anthropophagous lovers living on the margins of society who decide to embark on a cross-country road trip in 1980s America. The film also boasts an impressive supporting cast that includes Mark Rylance, Michael Stuhlbarg, André Holland, Jessica Harper, Chloë Sevigny, Francesca Scorsese, and Halloween director David Gordon Green.

Now, a day before the film's premiere at the Venice Film Festival, MGM has released a new Bones & All clip. The footage finds Lee and Maren sitting together in the bed of a pickup truck as Chalamet's character seemingly describes his first experience with cannibalism, which he interestingly compares to feeling like a "weird new superhero." Watch the clip below:

While cannibalism is not explicitly mentioned in the clip nor by Bones & All's official marketing campaign at all for that matter, it can be inferred what Lee and Maren are talking about based on the premise of the film. For starters, Bones & All is based on Camille DeAngelis' novel of the same name which follows two teenage drifters who develop a mutual infatuation based on their affinity for eating human flesh. Adapted to the screen by Guadagnino's frequent screenwriter, David Kajganich, the film's official synopsis makes no mention of cannibalism, though Chalamet and Russell's characters have widely been referred to as cannibalistic lovers.

In this first Bones & All clip, Lee's description of his first indulgence in cannibalism is just a taste of what the film will offer as it explores the moral dilemma of this innate desire, along with themes of loneliness and self loathing which are also present in the source material. Bones & All is one of the buzziest films premiering at the Venice Film Festival this year and with any luck, Chalamet and Guadagnino's latest collaboration should be able to maintain that aura of intrigue into its theatrical release on November 23.
