Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron addresses questions about whether Wanda Maximoff is already gone for good in the MCU. After suffering her latest loss at the end of Disney+'s WandaVision, Elizabeth Olsen's Marvel character fully embraced her villainy as the Scarlet Witch in the Sam Raimi-directed blockbuster. In the Doctor Strange sequel, she is pitted against Strange as she attempts to wreak havoc in the multiverse in the hopes of reuniting with her sons, Billy and Tommy.

Much has already been said about Wanda's fate in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Despite committing a series of crimes, including ruthlessly killing Earth-838's Illuminati, the film ends with the character showing remorse for her actions. Ultimately, she sacrifices herself to put a stop to the damage that she has already caused. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness purposefully left the Scarlet Witch's fate unclear, but there's an idea that she is dead — at least for now.
In a new interview with Empire Magazine, Waldron is asked about the real status of Wanda in the MCU, particularly if she's gone for good. The Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness scribe is understandably coy with his answer, unwilling to reveal anything about Marvel's future plans. Read what he has to say below:

The MCU is not new to faking deaths. In fact, it's one of the most criticized parts of the Infinity Saga after multiple returns from Loki and even Phil Coulson. Even Vision, who wasn't revived in Avengers: Endgame after his demise in Avengers: Infinity War, found a way to return in WandaVision. Therefore, it's safe to say that Scarlet Witch will ultimately make her comeback in the MCU. After all, Wanda was dubbed the crown jewel of the Multiverse Saga, which means that her story cannot end so soon. The question of her potential return is about when and how. Considering the string of confirmed Marvel Studios projects thus far, she could be back in Agatha: Coven of Chaos or perhaps even Loki season 2.
While it's reassuring to know that Wanda will likelu eventually return to the MCU, it isn't a good idea to sideline her after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Based on Waldron's comments, it sounds like it may take a while before Scarlet Witch re-emerges, and considering that the character is at the height of her popularity, Marvel Studios should be putting her in more projects the same way they did with Iron Man in the Infinity Saga. It isn't yet clear what Marvel's full strategy is, but it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Scarlet Witch.
