Flickr has set up a shop for people to purchase prints.

It was only a matter of time seeing as how they were acquired by SmugMug a few years ago. Print selling is one of the functions of SmugMug.

In mid-January, Flickr made the announcement that it was expanding its print capabilities. In the past, purchasing prints were limited to members of the Flickr community purchasing their own images.

Now, anyone — Flickr members and visitors alike — can order professional quality prints from a select group of photographers who have made their work available for sale.

How does it work?

You can now shop for prints and wall art with just a few clicks. You’ll find the images available for sale in the brand new storefront: “The Print Shop.” When searching, photos that are available for print will also appear in the first row of your search results.

Flickr Prints are backed by years of photography sales success on their sister site, SmugMug. The prints will come from Bay Photo in Santa Cruz, California. They offer paper prints, wall art and desk art of photos in a wide range of sizes and finishes.

Who are the approved sellers?

This feature is part of a pilot program. Flickr says you can expect to hear about more improvements, tweaks and featured photographers in the future.

For launch, these are the talented photographers whose work you can buy for your home, office, or wherever you could use some inspiring photography:

  • Amanda Powell
  • Darren LoPrinzi
  • Jason R.
  • Jeff S.
  • Jordan K.
  • Lauri Novak
  • Matt K.
  • Patrick J.
  • Shannon O.
