Introduction: Alden Trenholm
This book is about the woods around my neighborhood in a suburb of Boston.
Not too long ago, a nephew of mine asked how I became a trapper, woodsman, etc. After thinking a while, the only explanation I could come up with was that I was such a lousy athlete. I played football when I was in school and ended up breaking my leg. While playing center field on a local baseball team, I was back-pedaling for a fly ball in a pasture and tripped over a cow, injuring myself again and allowing four runs to score. I helped organize a baseball team of nine players and ended up with ten. Guess who got cut?
