Master star Regina Hall recently shared an update regarding the script to Girls Trip 2. From The Best Man director Malcolm D. Lee, the raunchy road comedy starred Hall as bestselling author Ryan Pierce who invites her old friends on a trip in an attempt to rekindle their friendship. Collectively known as the "Flossy Posse," the group consisted of internet gossip reporter Sasha Franklin (Queen Latifah), nurse and mother Lisa Miller Cooper (Jada Pinkett-Smith), and the rambunctious unemployed Dina (Tiffany Haddish).

Released in 2017, Girls Trip was a massive hit with critics and fans. The film garnered over $140 million on its $19 million budget. In 2019, both Pinkett-Smith and Latifah confirmed that a Girls Trip sequel was in the works, and in 2020, Haddish reported that screenwriter Tracy Oliver had completed a treatment of the story ready to be written. More recently, Girls Trip producer Will Packer promises that the sequel will be even better than the first.
While a guest on Good Morning America, Hall gave an update on the status of Girls Trip 2. The actor explained that no script had been written and that production on the film had yet to commence. Hall admitted that the primary reason for the delay was the COVID pandemic forcing schedules to shuffle. However, the actor shares that she is excited to work with her costars and director once again. Read what Hall said below.
"You know what? I hate disappointing. We're not in production. It's not written yet."
"I just can't wait to see the script. It is going to happen, it's what I've been told. I did hear that they're writing…It's probably just — Everything gets slowed down with schedules. It was going to move, and then Omicron happened. And, you know, there's a new COVID wiggle coming every few months."
"It's going to be really, really nice. I've seen the girls, obviously but to work together again…It'll be great to have everyone back together all at once."
Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic hindered the production of the Girls Trip sequel. However, Hall confirms that the film is still happening, but it is only a matter of time before the film will be greenlit. With much of the cast busy working on new projects, such as Haddish starring in the upcoming Haunted Mansion remake and The Afterparty season 2, scheduling Girls Trip 2 has become difficult. Fans must be patient to see what the long-awaited sequel will have in store for the Flossy Posse.
The end of Girls Trip shows the friend group stronger than ever, with Sasha now in business with Ryan while also finding love with Julian Stevens (Larenz Tate). A sequel can further progress these bonds by challenging both Sasha and Ryan as they try to take their careers to another level as Julian attempts to elevate his relationship to something more permanent. However, audiences will have to be patient and wait for another announcement that will hopefully reveal Girl Trip 2's greenlight.
