DC's Margot Robbie stuns as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Mystique in new X-Men fan art. Ever since Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, the Mutants' introduction into the MCU has been inevitable. The transition first began with Patrick Stewart's appearance as Charles Xavier/Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which was likely a one-time cameo. While the MCU Fantastic Four movie is currently scheduled to be released on November 8, 2024 as the first film of Phase Six, there is no official news on an X-Men movie.

Still, multiple Disney+ shows have already alluded to the existence of Mutants in the MCU. The Ms. Marvel finale revealed that Kamala Khan has a mutation in her genes, a moment underlined by a variation of the X-Men Animated Series theme song playing in the background. She-Hulk episode 2 featured a Wolverine referenced with an internet headline that reads, "Man fights with metal claws in bar brawl." With Marvel movies and shows slowly introducing the idea of X-Men in the MCU, many have been wondering which mutants will eventually appear, what they will look like, and most importantly, who will play them.

The fan art incorporates a couple of Mystique's signature characteristics from the comics. First off, the design imagines Robbie's Mystique wearing the character's comics-accurate white attire complemented with her belt made of skulls, which are not merely decorative but often contain small weapons she utilizes in fights. Of course, the art also includes Mystique's iconic blue skin and red hair, which was honored by Rebecca Romijn's version of the character from Bryan Singer’s earlier X-Men films as well as Jennifer Lawrence's from the prequel movies.

Robbie is an Academy Award-nominated actress best known for playing Harley Quinn in the DC Extended Universe, but with the franchise currently shrouded in uncertainty, there has been rumors about Robbie (like just about every big-name actor) potentially joining the MCU. Exemplified by this fan art, Robbie has been commonly fancast as the iconic X-Men villain, Mystique, though there is also significant interest in seeing her play Emma Frost. The stunning fan art is sure to drum up even more enthusiasm for Robbie playing Mystique and potentially increase her chances of making the jump from the DCEU to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
