Daisy Ridley hilarious crashes John Boyega’s interview to ask her Star Wars co-star about his joining the MCU. Ridley and Boyega both joined the Star Wars universe in 2015’s franchise-reviving blockbuster The Force Awakens. And – at least for now – both exited the universe with 2019’s divisive The Rise of Skywalker.

While it may remain to be seen what Boyega and Ridley’s potential Star Wars future looks like, Boyega for his part has indicated that returning as former Stormtrooper Finn is not in the cards. Instead of diving back into the ever-tumultuous world of Star Wars, Boyega is currently focusing on other projects, including the long-awaited sequel Attack of the Block 2, which he is not only starring in but producing and co-writing. Meanwhile, rumors continue to swirl about Boyega making the leap from one huge Disney-owned franchise to another, jumping from Star Wars to the MCU. But Boyega for his part continues denying these rumors, saying recently that being in big movies is not “the vision for me now” and that he’s focused on making indie films with “new, fresh ideas.

It may be that Boyega really has left franchise movies behind for the time being, and is instead totally immersed in making smaller, more meaningful films. But that certainly won’t stop journalists from bringing up those MCU rumors and trying to squeeze information out of the actor. Boyega indeed had the screws put to him during a recent appearance with Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused, but the pressure came not from Horowitz himself but from someone very unexpected: Boyega’s own Star Wars co-star Ridley, who crashed the interview to make Boyega fess up about his possible jump to the MCU. See the whole delightful exchange in the space below:

Ridley indeed employs devious means to try and wring the truth out of Boyega, telling him to look Horowitz in the eye (over Zoom of course) and tell him he is “not part of the Marvel universe in any way.” Boyega to his credit does not crack under this arguably unfair pressure, immediately getting serious and saying “I’ve had no talks, no Marvel. I’ve done no Marvel movies. I had no talks for them.” Boyega does however insist he’s a huge Marvel fan, saying he might even go to the theater and check out the Spider-Man: No Way Home rerelease featuring new footage.

Boyega indeed seems totally sincere in his insistence that he has had no talks with Marvel. While it may be true that he’s not in any upcoming Marvel projects, and has had no recent talks with Marvel, Boyega did admit back in 2018 to having had meetings about joining the MCU, but said nothing came of them. In the above video, Boyega also turns the tables on Ridley by throwing out the possibility that his Star Wars co-star is actually the one with an upcoming MCU role and that she’s trying to throw fans off by shifting the pressure to him. Ridley has in fact been mentioned in connection with Spider-Woman in the past, and has indicated she’d be interested.

It’s of course true that if Boyega were involved in an MCU project, he would not give that information up in an interview, even under pressure from Ridley. One can only take him at his word that he has no current Marvel projects on the docket. But that can easily change in the future, and fans may still see Boyega make that big leap from Star Wars to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
