Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tess Thompson are set to star in the new sci-fi thriller Ash. Steven Ellison, the filmmaker and musician better known as Flying Lotus, will direct the film, having previously helmed Kuso. Flying Lotus also has the upcoming anthology film V/H/S/99, in which he wrote and directed a segment. District 9 writer-director Neill Blomkamp is also attached as an executive producer, with Flying Lotus set to compose the film's score.
As reported by The Wrap, Gordon-Levitt and Thompson will lead what sounds like a small cast in a unique sci-fi film with a detective story. The plot of Ash sees an astronaut on a distant planet (Thompson) who wakes up to find her fellow crew brutally murdered. Another astronaut (Gordon-Levitt) comes to the rescue, which prompts the two to investigate what happened. Terrifying events follow, leaving the astronauts questioning whether they can trust each other. In a statement regarding Gordon-Levitt and Thompson's casting, Ellison said, "It's an absolute dream come true to collaborate with some of the most talented actors out there."
