A new action-packed trailer for Extraction 2 shows off behind-the-scenes footage from new locations and reveals Chris Hemsworth's even bigger stunts. Released in 2020, Netflix's Extraction introduced audiences to Hemsworth's Tyler Rake, a skilled mercenary who must rescue the kidnapped child of a powerful crime lord. The film, which is directed by Sam Hargrave, earned generally positive reviews from critics and was highly watched by audiences upon its release, with Netflix soon after giving a sequel the green light.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY
Little is known about the plot of Extraction 2, but set photos and videos have already shown audiences some of what's to come in the highly-anticipated sequel. A first photo from the film teased that Rake will be heading to a more snowy locale, with the photo showing the character decked out in black tactical gear holding onto the side of a train. With Hargrave being a former stunt performer himself, the first Extraction featured a number of impressive action sequences, with Hemsworth doing a lot of the stunts himself. Producer Joe Russo recently confirmed that Extraction 2 will be very different from the first film in terms of setting and pace, and fan expectations are still high that the sequel will deliver more of the action the first film became known for.
As part of Netflix's TUDUM event, a brand-new trailer for Extraction 2 has been released, showing off behind-the-scenes footage from new locations and teasing some of Hemsworth's crazy stunts. Director Hargrave promises that the action will be even bigger and better than the first film, with the trailer revealing that capturing Hemsworth's action on camera was often an impressive feat in itself. Check out the new trailer below:
Chris Hemsworth Does Lots Of Practical Stunts In Extraction 2
Boasting a style of action that is reminiscent of what John Wick brought to the table in 2014 (which itself drew heavily from Asian action cinema), the first Extraction wowed audiences because Hemsworth did a lot of his own action scenes. Instead of swapping Hemsworth out for a stunt performer, the actor was trained in how to move, shoot, drive, and fight in order to do many of the scenes himself. As shown in the latest trailer for Extraction 2 this was taken to an extreme level in the sequel, with Hemsworth rehearsing intricate fight choreography, swinging a flaming riot shield, and clutching onto a train as a helicopter flies close overhead.
Of course, being a valuable movie star, Hemsworth will undoubtedly have to tap out in favor of a stunt performer for certain sequences, but the new Extraction 2 footage suggests that the sequel has put a big emphasis on the practicality of the action and the actor's involvement in it. Furthermore, not only are the stunts themselves filmed very practically, but the trailer shows that much of the action was shot in real locations without the use of green screen. Extraction 2 doesn't yet have a firm release date beyond confirmation that it will hit Netflix in 2023, but it certainly seems like fans are in for a sequel that is bigger, bolder, and boasting even more stunts from Hemsworth.
