Marvel actor Anthony Mackie recently revealed that he wants to top one particular Chris Evans Captain America fight scene. Evans first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the titular superhero in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. He reprised his role as Steve Rogers in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where was joined by Mackie's military vet Sam Wilson/Falcon and the two characters sparked a strong friendship. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Rogers passed his iconic shield to Wilson, thereby passing the mantle of the hero as well. However, it wasn't until the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that Wilson finally accepted the responsibility as the new Captain America.

In 2021, Captain America: New World Order was announced with Wilson reprising his role. Penned by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier writers Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, and directed by The Cloverfield Paradox's Julius Onah, filming is expected to commence early next year with a release date set for May 3, 2024. The upcoming sequel will see the return of Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) and Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as well as Samuel Sterns/Leader (Tim Blake Nelson) from The Incredible Hulk (2008).
In a recent interview with E! News, Mackie shared which of Evans' Captain America fight scenes he wants to top in his run as the hero. The actor revealed that he wants an action scene that bests the likes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier's elevator brawl in which Rogers finds himself surrounded by Hydra agents in a small elevator and takes each one of them out in brutal hand-to-hand combat. Read what the actor said below.
"I want a fight scene that rivals Chris Evans' fight scene in the elevator [in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Solider]…when he fought like 10 dudes in the elevator. That was a bad ass scene. The first time I saw that, I was like, ‘That's crazy.' So I just want a fight scene that rivals that."
How Anthony Mackie's Cap Can Top Steve Rogers
Mackie chose a tough fight scene to beat as Rogers' brawl in Captain America: The Winter Soldier is widely lauded by MCU fans as one of the best fight scenes in the franchise. However, with Wilson's winged Captain America suit, it should allow the hero more freedom and techniques to defeat his foes. His ability to take flight gives Wilson a verticality and momentum that Rogers never had. However, one of the reasons why the elevator fight is so popular is due to its limiting nature, keeping Rogers boxed in a small space with very little room to dispatch his enemies.
With Captain America: New World Order set to give Mackie his first proper standalone film in the MCU, it is understandable that he wants to make a statement with an exciting fight scene. Each previous Captain America film gave Evans unique opportunities to explore his characters' physicality, and now Mackie gets his chance with his upcoming Phase Five film. With Ramirez taking the mantle of Falcon in Captain America: New World Order, and Lumbly returning as the super serum-enhanced military veteran Bradley, perhaps Mackie will feature in an unforgettable team-up fight that may rival the elevator brawl.
