The official trailer for V/H/S/99 rings in the millennium with a new anthology of short horror films. The movie's predecessor, V/H/S/94, was a soft reboot of the franchise that transported viewers back in time via found-footage shorts. At the time of its release, V/H/S/94 became Shudder's most-viewed movie premiere of all time, and fans turned Chloe Okuno's Storm Drain segment into a viral sensation, prompting the niche streaming platform to greenlight a new film. Shudder subsequently announced the retro follow-up V/H/S/99, which will include five unique tales of terror from a slate of new directors to the franchise.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

IGN now unleashes the official teaser trailer for V/H/S/99, which provides fans with a preview of the anthology's short films. Some clips hint at an entry involving a cultish ritual, another involving a deformed creature, a spider crawling on a woman's face, and one seemingly set in a church. As with the previous film, V/H/S/99 will feature vintage effects to reflect the '90s accurately. Check out the trailer below:

Earlier reports revealed that the sequel would explore the final days of the '90s, when analog was on its last legs and hysteria surrounding Y2K perpetuated widespread paranoia. Therefore, V/H/S/99 should be the perfect October release for lovers of retro horror and older genre fans who appreciate the throwback to analog. While the trailer does not distinctly highlight those themes aside from some disconnected frames toward the end, the V/H/S franchise faithful should expect more connectedness and the wilder surprises to unveil themselves throughout V/H/S/99.
