Anticipation has been high for a Knives Out sequel since the first film debuted to strong box office numbers and garnered rave reviews, securing three Golden Globe nods and one Oscar nomination, setting Craig's Benoit Blanc up to be the next fan-favorite private detective. Curiosity further grew when Netflix acquired the rights to two Knives Out sequels in a major $469 million auction win, both of which will see Craig and Johnson returning in their respective positions. Filming on the first sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, kicked off shortly thereafter for three months in the Mediterranean, and now audiences are getting their first proper glimpse at the film.
With a few months still remaining until its arrival, Netflix has revealed the official Knives Out 2 trailer and poster. The trailer offers a deeper look at the highly anticipated murder mystery sequel, including Craig's return to his Golden Globe nominated character. Check out the trailer below:
Though still keeping much of its plot close to its chest, the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery trailer goes a long way to sharing some insight for what to expect from the new film. It was already revealed that the group of suspects and potential victims were brought to the Mediterranean by Norton's character, with the video seemingly indicating the group were invited for a murder-mystery game, with Bautista's character even asking as such at the end of it. For some, this may almost seem a cheeky nod from Johnson to Craig's memorable Knives Out monologue about a donut hole inside a donut hole, as Johnson weaves a murder mystery within another murder mystery.
One of the more interesting takeaways from the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery trailer is the notable absence of Ethan Hawke. The Moon Knight actor previously indicated that his part would be nothing more than a cameo within the sequel, and with his lack of an appearance in any footage or images of the film thus far, it's sure to raise questions as to the nature of Hawke's role in the film, including whether he is the victim that kicks off Benoit Blanc's next case. Only time will tell what Johnson and co. have in store when Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery premieres on Netflix on December 23.
