Star Wars sequel trilogy actor Domhnall Gleeson recently expressed that he is open to returning to the long-running franchise in the future. Ten years after the conclusion of the prequel trilogy with Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, the science-fiction fantasy returned with Episode VII – The Force Awakens to begin a new phase of the Star Wars universe. Although well-received by critics, the latest Star Wars trilogy proved controversial with fans.

Gleeson starred as General Armitage Hux, a high-ranking commander within the evil military faction, the First Order, appearing in each of the sequel trilogy films. Initially the commander of Starkiller Base, a planet-sized weapon, he challenges Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) for authority, eventually betraying the First Order out of spite. However, his actions result in his untimely death when it is revealed that he is a spy for the Resistance.
In a recent interview with TheWrap, Gleeson admitted that he is open to returning to the massive Star Wars franchise. When asked whether he would want to reprise his role as Hux, the actor enthusiastically responded positively, stating that he would love to. However, Gleeson noted that he does not believe anybody within Lucasfilm would want to expand his character's story. Read what the actor said below.
“Of course I would! He was really interesting, and I think there’s a lot I could do more [with him].”
“I don’t see them making the call. I’m not sure anybody’s clamoring for a Hux sequel or prequel. But yeah, of course. Those movies are amazing.”
Although Gleeson says that he would be thrilled at a chance to return to Star Wars, he seemingly understands that General Hux is not a character many would consider a fan favorite. Following Hux's intense and relatively frightening performance in The Force Awakens, Hux arguably became the butt of a joke in both Episode VII – The Last Jedi and Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. His certain death at the hands of Allegiant General Pryde (Richard E. Grant) eliminates the chances for Hux to return in a sequel.
However, Lucasfilm has taken to Disney+ to expand the stories of Star Wars characters such as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), both figures previously killed off in the franchise. Their television shows have set a precedent allowing the opportunity for Hux to reprise his role if the powers-that-be deem fit for a potential prequel series/film. However, with multiple Star Wars projects slated for release over the next few years, and all of them taking place before the sequel trilogy era, Gleeson may have to wait a bit longer for that call from Lucasfilm.
